Australian Industry Group Training Services has been involved in employing and or training apprentices and trainees throughout Australia for over fifty years. Many of these people have gone onto remarkable careers in industry and have become leaders in their fields of endeavour.

Since 2004, I have been fortunate to have worked with Australian Industry Group Training Services (AiGTS) and its predecessor in South Australia, the Engineering Employers Association Group Training Scheme(EEASAGTS).

We have now completed three series of detailed interviews for EEASAGTS and now the AiGTS and it has been a pleasure to see some of the people we have interviewed early in their apprenticeship grow into mature professionals over the years.

In 2010, we worked with AiGTS to profile some of their recent and current Apprentices throughout different trades and regions of Australia.

The work involved shooting eight interview packages with Host Companies talking about AiGTS people and Apprentices talking about their journeys and plans. These are truly amazing people all with their own individual stories and approaches to life.

General Manager of AiGTS,Dean Arundell had this to say about the project and our approach to its management:

“AiGTS has had a long term working relationship with Jon. Each year he assists with our South Australian Graduation Ceremony providing a detailed AV slideshow with pictures, video footage and music.
His professional approach allows AiGTS to focus on celebrating the apprentices achievements knowing that he will take care of the background information and show.
Jon knows our needs and delivers quality every year.

We approached Jon to put together a DVD focused around our apprentices and Host companies to show case what we do. Effortlessly he travelled around the country gathering footage and working with our staff, Host companies and apprentices to compile the DVD that we now use for trade shows, school visits and other major events.

We are proud of the end product and recommend Jon’s talents to prospective clients.”

Dean Arundell

Visit the AiGTS Website at the link here

Skills utilised with AiGTS include:

Project Management

Apple Keynote presentations

Full HD Production from concept to delivery

It’s a wrap!

After 2 years, dozens of shoots and with the cooperation of an army of people, the Group Training Australia (SA) Induction Video Series has now been completed.

The series of 6 videos has been produced in conjunction with GTASA members and covers trade areas including construction, hospitality, automotive, horticulture and engineering. This initiative was supported by the Employers Mutual Member Benefits Program which supports major safety initiatives throught Sth Australia. The project was managed for GTA(SA) by Mal Aubrey who provided extensive logistical and moral support throughout.

The program starts apprentices off on a good safety footing with a general induction video on safety concepts and then progresses into their particular field.

Video preview of Video Induction Series

The videos feature apprentices current and past talking about their safety experiences and ideas on how to work safely throughout their careers. We also interviewed medical professionals who add a different perspective for a new apprentice.

The series took over two years to complete and could not have been possible without the support of the Group Training Organisations throughout the state, their host employers and the apprentices and staff that assisted us throughout.

Michael Boyce (PEER VEET) & Hon Gerry Kandelaars MLC

The GTA(SA) OHS committee, headed by Mal Baxter also played a pivotal role in helping make this an honest look at the workplaces and typical hazards a new apprentice or trainee may find.
SafeWorkSA also provided days of time in review of the material and helped us to ensure the messages are as strong as possible for our future trades professionals.

The Video series was launched at PEER VEET on the 22nd of March by the Hon Gerry Kandelaars MLC to an audience of about 60 people including the senior management of WorkCover SA, TafeSA, and many key Industry Associations. The launch was a great chance for all the people who have worked hard to bring this together to celebrate the result.
Even some of our interviewees were there to see the preview video.

Greg Connor (Employers Mutual) Gael Fraser and Rob Thomson (WorkCover SA)
The program is now being prepared to be used both as a class based and online interactive training resource.

Employers Mutual held a Member Benefits Program Showcase on the 22nd of February at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide.

jbcdv has worked with Employers Mutual on a series of projects including the Workstation Ergonomics DVD and the production of 5 show reels to highlight the Member Benefits Program throughout a range of South Australian Associations and organisations.

The function was attended by over 80 guests and was addressed by Mr Rob Thomson, CEO of WorkCover SA and Mr Greg Connor, General Manager of Employers Mutual in South Australia. Other guest speakers included Anna Moeller from MTA(SA) and Janette Pearce from the Printing Industries Association. Three of the five projects under the program to be shown as video profiles.
The purpose of the Showcase was to show existing and future recipients of the Member Benefits Program and to see what’s possible to achieve under the program.
The Member Benefits Program has produced lasting improvements to safety throughout a wide range of industry sectors across South Australia and jbcdv is proud to have been involved with the production of the showcase and the Apple Keynote slide show that was produced for the show.

The five show reels run for around 3 minutes each and were produced within 2 months over the Christmas period.

The associations involved have requested their videos to be put on their own websites to promote the safety messages within their own membership.

This highly challenging project could only have been possible with the support of the associations and the hands on support of Employers Mutual Member Benefits Program Manager Jodie Bischoff.

jbcdv foundation client SAGE has joined forces with a leading German engineering firm to help make Australian manufacturers more globally competitive, delivering bankable intelligence.

SAGE and Project Engineering have formed Prozess – a joint venture to generate “bankable process improvements” for manufacturers across industry sectors including mining, fmcg, building materials, food and beverage, agriculture processing.

jbcdv was asked to create a high impact presentation using Apple Keynote software to heighten the visual impact of the launch.
We worked closely with Rachael Oates, Communication and Marketing Officer, SAGE CEO Andrew Downs and Project Engineering’s Managing Director Eduard Schroeder on a tight timeline.

Prozess joint Director Garry Williams said the company met a market need for a more forensic approach to manufacturing process optimisation.

“The market is already flooded with so-called solution providers,” Mr Williams said.

“Providing a solution to a client brief is just one part of the puzzle. To truly add value to a business you must first identify the core problem.

In many cases it’s the problem that the client is unaware of that is really restricting their growth or competitiveness.”

Before its official market launch this month, Prozess has already worked alongside some of the nation’s best known companies across mining, building materials, food & beverage, agriculture processing and automotive.

They include Adelaide Brighton Cement, SMR, Drake Foodmarkets, Golden North, Balco and SPC.

Prozess joint Director Eduard Schroeder said the firm was already generating returns of investment for manufacturers measured in months not years.

Eduard Schroeder, Andrew Downs and Gary Williams of Prozess

“In the current business climate manufacturers are chasing productivity improvements like never before,” Mr Schroeder said.

“Remaining globally competitive requires a sharper focus on efficiency and effectiveness – not just on the production line but across the whole business.

“It comes down to continually asking why and thinking beyond the conveyor belt to the ultimate marketplace of the manufacturer.

The key is to deliver bankable process improvement in line with the current market and in a sustainable way,” he said.

As part of the joint venture, Prozess has developed a network of collaboration partners with experience and expertise across all areas of manufacturing.

“We bring a global approach to the table uniting German quality and precision with Australian entrepreneurial spirit and experience while our approach is based on the proven Japanese methodology of lean manufacturing,” Mr Williams said.

About the Prozess JV Partners
Established in 1994, SAGE specialises in the design, construction, installation and support of industrial integrated electrical control systems and instrumentation. It has almost 300 employees with offices in all major cities within Australia.

Founded in 1999, German-based Project Engineering is a specialist engineering company with a staff of 25 engineers. It has worked with major global companies including Porsche and Mercedes Benz, Continental and Heidelberg Printing.

jbcdv is proud to once again have been selected to help SAGE produce key launch materials which will be used in roll outs around Australia and beyond

PSG has recently finished work on the first stage of the project to provide electrical and communication services to the new Royal Children’s Hospital on Flemington Road in Parkville Melbourne.

The billion dollar four year project was recently opened by the her Royal Highness The Queen on her Australian visit in October.

PSG has been involved in the design and development of all electrical and communication systems for the project and had up to 350 staff working on the project at its peak.

The hospital features 200,000 square metres of floor space and over two and a half million metres of wiring to make it all work.
This project was the largest hospital project in Victoria and is a stunning, colourful and cheerful place for its young patients.

We were asked by PSG to video and photograph the new building for PSG to use in a profile and to capture the many magical aspects of the very child friendly hospital.

The hospital has an aquirium that spans several floors and its own meerkat zoo to provide a touch of fun into the patients stay there. The use of bright colours and drawings on the walls, doors and lifts were amazing to see.

The attention to detail of PSG’s work was highly evident from the wards through to the substations and generation systems behind the scenes. We are proud to have worked with PSG to document this truly amazing project.

In mid 2011, I was approached by Dianne Altmann, Development & Marketing Manager of Normus Urban Projects, one of Adelaide’s most progressive medium density builders.

Normus focus on independent living, medium density and accommodation for people with disabilities and those in need of constant care. This is highly demanding work and the specifications are extremely complex.

They have also been at the forefront of developing and building new homes in conjunction with the Government and councils called TOD, or Transport Oriented Development.

Normus has won significant awards in the last 2 years for some of the major projects they have undertaken.

To help promote their work to a myriad of developers and Government agencies, We worked on creating a series of presentations of their work based on Apple Keynote software.

We embedded video profiles on each sector and these are combined with a completely customised and personalised presentation unique to the business.

The videos include site footage and edited interviews with staff and major clients. The presentations are used at their head offices in St Peters in a custom built boardroom featuring High definition projection and quality audio.

Practical and flexible presentations
The new presentations have been used in a series of meetings and client visits. The quality of the work has been widely commented on and the result is that the people viewing the presentation are getting a fresh and concise look at what Normus has to offer.

“Normus Urban Projects wanted to produce a high quality promotional video with the capacity to make changes during the course of the year when new material became available. .

I met Jon several months ago and he had some great ideas and I found it very easy to communicate my thoughts and with his expertise and transform them into the finished product. He has been extremely flexible and patient, guiding me through the whole process. He also makes good coffee!

The result is nothing short of spectacular and has exceeded our expectations.”

Since 1840, the South Australian Wine Industry Association has been the peak body representing the winegrape growers and winemakers of South Australia. The association provides practical information and advice to members on a wide range of topics - industrial relations , OHS, environment, viticulture and wine education.

In the pursuit of providing safety initiatives for the wine industry SAWIA developed a wine safety interactive induction program (DVD). This tool, funded by Employers Mutual through its Member Benefit Program was one which they believed could provide a consistent safety message to industry employers and employees whilst also contributing to any further reduction in injury rates. The program provides general safety information for people entering the wine industry and can be used to enhance employers’ existing induction processes or as a means of refresher training for existing employees.

Since its launch in September 2011 SAWIA members’ have commented that the DVD will become an essential tool in their safety kit bag. SAWIA made comments on the work we did with them below.

“SAWIA project managed the creation of the DVD Program, but we could not have achieved the final result without Jon Burke’s expert guidance. Jon was tenacious in ensuring that all activities on the project plan were met “on time and within budget”. The production of the DVD was extremely complex and involved working with SAWIA’s OHSW Steering Committee and shooting at multiple members’ sites throughout South Australia. Without Jon’s overall experience of writing the script through to shooting the actual film footage we could not have achieved this fantastic result.”

Plumbing Industry Awards Dinner a success
The Plumbing Industry Association dinner was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on October 29th and was attended by 450 people from across the plumbing spectrum.

River Murray and Water Minister the Hon Paul Caica addressed the function and the industry celebrated the achievements of industry over the last 12 months.

jbcdv has been building the presentation for the night now for 5 years which includes 18 video reels for the award finalists and the entire on screen presentation slideshow which is custom designed for each years theme.

This year we ran the videos in full HD for the first time and this was attracted many highly positive comments from the association and viewers. This event is one we work on closely with the PIASA and look after a massive logistical exercise to make it happen smoothly on the night.

Planning for next year has started already!
